Amphico and Olmetex partner to bring waterless woven colour to market with AW27/28 collection

London-based material science company Amphico and Italian technical mill Olmetex have produced a collection of fabrics coloured through machine learning-guided weaving, a technology that enables a small number of base yarns to generate thousands of colours – all without a single dye bath.

LONDON and COMO, Italy – 7th July, 2026 – Lower-impact colour has long come with a catch: methods that remove water and chemicals from colouration have also tended to narrow the palette brands can work with. Amphicolor™, the colour intelligence platform from London-based material science company Amphico, is built to remove that trade-off. By creating colour through weaving rather than wet dyeing, Amphicolor™ unlocks the potential for limitless colour without a single dye bath. In partnership with Olmetex, a premium technical fabric mill based in Como, Italy, the technology is now available through a 200-fabric AW27/28 collection.

Amphicolor™ creates colour through optical mixing, weaving fabric from a small set of solution-dyed base yarns. Using just six base yarns – in 40 denier nylon Microlon by Aquafil – Amphicolor™ can generate thousands of unique colours. For this collection, Amphico worked from Olmetex’s AW27/28 colour forecast, translating key shades into Amphicolor™ weaving recipes. Olmetex then wove the collection at its mill in Como. The result is a collection of beautiful, lightweight fabrics with unique tonal shifts and visual depth, unlocking new creative possibilities without the need for dyeing.

Founded in 1952, Olmetex is a premium technical fabric mill supplying performance materials to leading brands. The partnership pairs its manufacturing capability with Amphico's colour platform, and offers a route for brands to access waterless colour in finished, production-ready fabric.

"Colour is one of the most resource-intensive steps in making a textile, and for too long the lower-impact options have asked brands to give something up. We built Amphicolor™ to remove that compromise, moving colour into the weave so a full palette no longer means a dye bath. With Olmetex, that now exists as finished fabric a brand can buy.” said Jun Kamei, Founder and CEO of Amphico.

"For more than 70 years, Olmetex has been committed to pushing the boundaries of textile innovation. Partnering with Amphicolor allows us to combine our expertise in technical fabrics with a revolutionary approach to colour creation, delivering the design freedom our customers expect while contributing to a more resource-efficient future for the textile industry" said Riccardo Breschi, General Manager at Olmetex.

The AW27/28 collection is available now. Brands, designers and product developers can request fabric samples or explore bespoke colour development with Olmetex and Amphico via hello@amphico.uk.
